Western Alumni French Immersion Week

Would you like to speak French more easily and with greater confidence? There's no better way to learn French and experience true Quebecois culture than by fully immersing yourself in the language and lifestyle.

Purple and Proud

Western Alumni are invited to attend our French Immersion Week (August 13-19, 2017) in order to celebrate the 85th anniversary of our French Immersion school in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec.

Eighty-five years ago, Western chose to locate its French immersion school in Trois-Pistoles because of the town's charm, intimate size, hospitality, and its friendly, French-speaking milieu. These qualities still characterize Trois-Pistoles today. In Trois-Pistoles, French is the language of everyday life: on the streets, in shops, restaurants, and homes. The whole town is your campus, a living language laboratory.

A Complete Immersion

Spend your mornings in the classroom brushing up on your French language skills and the afternoons in phonetics workshops or exploring the beautiful Basques region of the Bas-Saint-Laurent.

Participate in a walking tour of the town and stroll down the main street lined with colourful brick and wooden houses constructed in the style of old Quebec and learn to orient yourself at the town's main intersection, marked by the post office, the city hall, and the magnificent stone church whose triple spires serve as a landmark for river traffic. Hike through the breathtaking parc du Bic, take to water by kayak, and go whale watching along the St. Lawrence River.

Spend your evenings absorbing French language and culture through film and music and socializing with fellow alumni over drinks and culinary delights.

View our Trois-Pistoles photo album and preliminary French Immersion Week schedule for an idea of what to expect during the program.
